Job Function

Mechanical Design Engineer

As part of a multi-disciplined team and a modern Engineering department, this role involves the continuous improvement of the Company’s world leading products through leading-edge design.

In this position, the Design Engineer will be expected to produce and implement new design solutions for the Company’s Nano instruments product line. The Design Engineer will have a strong mechanical engineering bias, but will contribute to all aspects of systems design. As such, the Design Engineer will have a good understanding of mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineering. A hands-on approach to product development is encouraged.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Engineering degree in a mechanical discipline or equivalent qualification/experience
  • 3D CAD design experience (preferably Pro E)
  • Experience developing complex assemblies, some hands-on assembly and testing experience is critical
  • Capable of analysing designs and assemblies to ensure required function is achieved
  • Knowledge of material science
  • Must have awareness of FMEAs, risk analysis and project planning

Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design and development of the Company’s deposition equipment
  • Assist with CIP activities on standard product and customer specific systems
  • Detailed design of systems and sub-system for manufacturing and assembly

Primary Task List             

  • Design and development of Deposition equipment, including mechanical design of parts and assemblies
  • Creation of Bill of Material for Production
  • Developing a full understanding of the Company’s product and technology
  • Test and qualification of new components and systems

Secondary Task List        

  • Support to production with issues occurring during manufacture
  • Support of design changes

Working Conditions / Environment:

  • They will adopt the working practices of a modern engineering office and a companywide quality system
  • Projects are conducted at both Group and local levels, so some travel is expected
